Extreme right ventricular hypoplasia after relief of severe pulmonary stenosis. Use of balloon catheter occlusion of atrial septal defect in assessing right ventricular function.

چکیده
A patient is described in whom extreme right ventricular hypoplasia and right-to-left shunting through an atrial septal defect occurred after relief of severe pulmonary stenosis. The ability of the hypoplastic right ventricle to deal with an increased volume load was assessed at cardiac catheterisation by occluding the atrial septal defect with a balloon tipped catheter.

Integrated Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Occlusion and Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty
Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases during childhood. Today, ASD closure is done by occlutech device via cardiac catheterization. ASD repair with transcatheter technique has shown high closure rate. However, coexistence of severe pulmonary stenosis and large defect in atrial septum is rare. When these two problems coexist, the result is i...
متن کاملIsolated right ventricular hypoplasia.
Hypoplasia of the right ventricle, unassociated with severe pulmonary or tricuspid valvar malformations, is a primary congenital abnormality in which the trabeculated sinus portion of the ventricle fails to develop. An atrial septal defect or a stretched foramen ovale serves as an escape valve. The clinical, hemodynamic, and angiocardiographic features of this rare type of cyanotic heart diseas...

Early surgery for forms of hypoplastic right heart syndrome may increase right ventricular size but could leave the patient with a residual right-to-left atrial shunt. Previous attempts to assess the capability of the right ventricle to accept systemic venous return have relied on angiographic estimates of tricuspid valve and right ventricular sizes. Since the minimum adequate sizes have not be...
متن کاملRight-sided Infective Endocarditis with Multiple Large Vegetations in a Case of Ventricular Septal Defect: A Case Report
Herein, we present the case of a 10-year-old child suffering from right-sided infective endocarditis with ventricular septal defect. Echocardiography revealed multiple rare large vegetations on the pulmonary valve extending into pulmonary artery along with a large vegetation over the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve.

Critical pulmonary valve stenosis (CPVS) and atrial septal defect (ASD) is an uncommon form of congenital heart disease. Concurrent transcatheter pulmonary valvuplasty and closure of secundum atrial septal defect appears to be an interesting alternative to surgical correction. We present the simultaneous balloon valvuloplasty of critical pulmonary stenosis (PS) with supra systemic right ventric...
